Perfect Hard-cooked Eggs

Follow this simple method to help prevent a grey-green ring from forming around the yolk.

  1. Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan. Add cold water until it's about 1 inch (2.5 cm) above the eggs. Cover.

  2. Bring to a boil on high. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Let stand, covered, for 20 minutes.

  3. Drain. Cover the eggs with cold water. Change the water each time it warms until the eggs are cool enough to handle. Remove the shells.
