Assembly
Notes:
Serge seams, or stitch using a scant 1/4-inch-wide seam allowance and finish seams with a zigzag stitch.

1. Stitch short edges of bottom side piece together with inner sides together. Cover seam with bias tape (Figure 1). Repeat for top side piece.

2. Fold each side piece in fourths and mark folds with pins. Fold top and bottom pieces in fourths and mark in same manner (Figure 2).

3. Open pieces and pin top and top side, inner sides together, matching quarter marks and easing sides to fit. Pin bottom and bottom side together in same manner. Stitch together and bind seams.

4. Finish raw edges of top and bottom sides; bind with bias tape.

5. On outside of bottom side, use chalk wheel to mark a line 1 3/4 inches from upper edge of side.

6. Pin the loop side of hook-and-loop tape around sides, aligning upper edge of tape with chalk line. Stitch both edges of tape to side using thread to match inner fabric.

7. Using permanent fabric adhesive, glue hook side of hook-and-loop tape to inside lower edge of top side; let dry thoroughly.

8. To use for storage, stack plates in caddy up to 5 inches high. Fold upper edge of side over plates and attach lid using hook-and-loop tape. To use for serving, remove the lid and fold over the top edge of bottom side to conceal the hook-and-loop tape.
