Chocolate Peanut Drops

A saucepan cookie for peanut fans. These won’t last long.
 
Granulated sugar2 cups500 mL
Milk1/2 cup125 mL
Hard margarine (or butter)1/2 cup125 mL
Cocoa, sifted if lumpy6 tbsp.100 mL
 
Smooth peanut butter3/4 cup175 mL
Vanilla1 tsp.5 mL
Quick-cooking rolled oats (not instant)3 cups750 mL
Chopped peanuts (or your favourite1/2 cup125 mL
nuts), optional
 
Combine first 4 ingredients in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil on medium. Remove from heat.

Add peanut butter and vanilla. Stir until smooth. Add rolled oats and peanuts. Mix well. Let stand for 15 minutes. Working quickly, roll into small balls, using 1 tbsp. (15 mL) dough for each. Place on waxed paper-lined cookie sheets. Chill for 2 to 3 hours until firm. Makes about 5 dozen (60) cookies.
