Oriental Cheese Spread

Oriental Cheese Spread      "Oriental Cheese Spread" is available in PDF format print friendly version

Block of cream cheese marinated in soy sauce, ginger and onion. Very yummy. Serve with a variety of crackers.
 
Soy sauce1/2 cup125 mL
Icing (confectioner's) sugar1/4 cup60 mL
Finely chopped green onion3 tbsp.50 mL
Finely chopped garlic (optional)1/2 tsp.2 mL
Minced crystallized ginger1 1/2 tbsp.25 mL
Dried crushed chilies1 tsp.5 mL
 
Block of cream cheese8 oz.250 g
 
Sesame seeds, toasted3 tbsp.50 mL
 
Combine first 6 ingredients in shallow bowl. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour into resealable plastic bag. Makes 3/4 cup (175 mL) marinade.

Add cream cheese. Seal bag. Turn to coat. Marinate in refrigerator for 3 days, turning occasionally.

Remove cream cheese. Press into sesame seeds until completely coated. Place on serving plate. Sprinkle remaining sesame seeds over top. Serves 8 to 10.

Variation: Omit plain sesame seeds. Use black sesame seeds.
