Have someone you want to impress? Here's a hint: because Thai flavours taste exotic, people automatically think Thai dishes are hard to make. Serve this one over rice.
 
Prepared beef broth1/4 cup60 mL
Lime juice2 tbsp.30 mL
Brown sugar, packed2 tbsp.30 mL
Soy sauce1 tbsp.15 mL
Cornstarch2 tsp.10 mL
 
Cooking oil1 tbsp.15 mL
Beef top sirloin steak, cut into thin, 1 lb.454 g
short strips
Garlic clove, minced 1 1
(or 1/4 tsp., 1 mL, powder)
Dried crushed chilies1 tsp.5 mL
 
Sliced onion1 cup250 mL
Sliced red pepper1 cup250 mL
 
Chopped fresh basil 1/4 cup60 mL
Chopped dry-roasted peanuts (optional)1/4 cup60 mL
 
Heat large frying pan or wok on medium-high until very hot. Meanwhile, combine first 5 ingredients in small cup. Set aside.

Add cooking oil to frying pan. Add next 3 ingredients. Stir-fry for about 2 to 4 minutes until beef reaches desired doneness. Transfer to plate. Cover to keep warm.

Add onion and red pepper to same frying pan. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes until tender-crisp. Add beef mixture. Stir cornstarch mixture. Add to beef mixture. Heat and stir for about 1 minute until boiling and thickened.

Add basil. Stir. Sprinkle peanuts over top. Makes about 2 1/2 cups (625 mL). Serves 4.
